OMG, this upholstery tutorial is amazing

You may have seen this tutorial on Apartment Therapy yesterday...

A multi-part tutorial for how to reupholster a chair the right way... that makes it sound so easy!  I've never known how it was done before but now I get it.  The pics and thorough instructions are so helpful.

Can't wait to try this on a chair I've had for a while, although I don't have time right now.  But I had no idea it was so easy!

Have any of you ever attempted such an elaborate recovering project?

  1. I just bookmarked the tutorial. I'm definitely going to try this! I have a vintage chair that is gorgeous but the upholestry is dated and damaged.

  3. Ooh, you're right, @banclothing! Here it is: http://www.designsponge.com/2011/10/upholstery-basics-coil-seat-finale.html

It's a little simpler than the one I posted pics of, but great for a bottom seat only chair.

  4. My only experience reupholstering something was when I worked in my school's costume shop: we were redoing chairs for an off-broadway show, and it was summer in a non-air conditioned prop room, miserable! I had to man a giant curved needle and a staple gun. Ever since then, I've stayed away...

But this tutorial may make me want to try again, especially now that I'm in the NW and not in NYC humidity.
