Real home tour! Classic colonial revival with organic and vintage touches

Sharing another Instagram account home tour! I absolutely love Jordan (@house_collected)'s aesthetic. She's updating her 1982 traditional colonial style home (one of my favorite layouts, I love the classics) in Michigan and I have so much fun watching her use slightly funky, patina-ed/rustic/English country pieces in a home with some traditional architectural elements. I just love some of the antique pieces she's brought in, and her daring powder room!

Take it away, Jordan!

This is our second home and our forever home. Our first home as a couple was a placeholder while I finished my anesthesia training. We moved here prior to having our son Boden knowing we wanted good schools and a bigger home for raising a family. My husband found this listing at 4am we both had to see it right away. We got so lucky to win this home even though there were a few other offers.

Home tour! 1913 home with lots of new life and funky modern traditional neutrals

Hooray, another of my Instagram Home Tour series! I am particularly excited about this one because this is the home of a friend I've now met in real life, another Portland area home decor influencer, @ciarakenaston. Ciara and her husband moved from SE Portland to a small town south of the city a couple years ago and are raising their two little boys and doing some beautiful improvements to their 100+ year old home. Ciara's style is similar to mine, with a mix of modern neutrals and antiques with patina and character!

This home is so cute, it just belongs on the Internet in a more permanent place than Instagram. I'm excited to share!

1913 Updated Modern Traditional Home Tour

Some words from Ciara!

This house moved us out of the city. I’ve always been drawn to historic homes and this was in the perfect setting. Close to parks, close enough to the city, and close to family.

The house was built in 1913 and was luckily remodeled to fit its era. Swapping out lighting, painting, counters and adding tile have been some of the things we’ve done to make it ours.

I’m thankful we’ve gotten to avoid demo and continue to add layers of moulding and hard finishes. Some of the most charming aspects of the home are the original doors and floors.

My favorite project has been the scullery, which is our combined laundry room and butler's pantry. The cabinets are a pretty sage green, and the room feels so warm and welcoming. My husband and I added wall paneling, wooden pegs and antique decor. It really feels whimsical while still being functional.

I never imagined I’d live in this tiny town outside the city, but am very glad we landed here!

Thanks, Ciara!!

Here's that utility space... you can see all the reveal photos in Ciara's One Room Challenge reveal post here. So much good storage! What an upgrade!

Home tour: Classic brick Tudor Revival home filled with color and family

I am really enjoying bringing you these Instagram home tours!! This one is very special, another historic Tudor revival style home with similar elements to mine, but with lots of fun, colorful, family touches. Angela Fahl (@angela.fahl)'s Instagram features her home and her dad's craftsman across the street, which she's helped restore. Angela, her husband, and her four kids live in this special home! She has a special story for how they found this house, and they've done some beautiful updates.

The first thing I was drawn to in Angela's feed was the dark wood trim she kept in her living room (like we did), but she has some great other design elements I've been noticing too, and great ideas for decorating a home with kids.

Take it away, Angela!

Our home is a Tudor Revival built in 1931. It’s made of all brick and concrete including the interior walls, floors, and ceilings. It does not have any wood framing so renovations are extremely tricky. We’ve been in our home for over 10 years.  The house wasn’t for sale but after a chance invitation to a party I fell in love with the home and the previous owners. One thing led to another and we purchased the home and are still very good friends with the previous owners. I have a love affair with our home and work really hard to make it work for our large family. This means keeping only what we actually need, love, and use. There is no room for excess in a modest sized home.  While we don’t have a pantry, kitchen island, or a coat closet we do have so much charm and character.

Historic home tour: Elegant updated Chicago foursquare

I am SO excited to share this home with you! The inspiration for my Instagram home tour series, my friend Hannah Hamburger (@hamb.home)'s 110-year-old home outside Chicago has lots of historic character as well as her high quality updates.

Here are some of Hannah's words:

When looking for a home for our growing family, I craved a home with history, a happy home where we could raise our kids and make our own memories. We took on our 2nd fixer upper in 3 years and set out to honor the history of the 110-year-old home, while still updating and making it function for our family. We've lived here for 2 years, although when we moved in February 2019, we had no kitchen counters, only one working bathroom, and zero interior doors.

I love that our house has a non-centered front door, so instead of two smaller living areas like most older homes in our neighborhood, we have one large, light filled living room. It's my favorite room and where everyone piles in for movies, fires, and family time.

Instagram home tour: Updated traditional home with soft color and character

I am happy to bring you the second in my new series, Instagram home tours! I am all about sharing my friends' hard work on their beautiful homes with a different audience than just Instagram app users--so I am bringing their home tours to my blog!

This time it's Whiney from @theredfernhome. She's made some great classic updates to her 1990's home on 2 wooded acres in Oklahoma and has a cohesive but fun style with rich blues and greens mixed in throughout. She is also a talented painter and has done some DIY art projects of beautiful oil paintings she displays in her decor!

Take it away, Whitney!

Updated Traditional and Colorful Home Tour

Our house was built in 1997 and is set on 2 wooded acres.  It's a 3,500 sf one-story home that's more spread out than the homes that are being built nowadays, and that's what I loved about it (rather than being narrow and deep because builders are cramming as many new houses into developments as they can, it is more wide and long).

It had builder grade finishes when we moved in, and the major renovations we did prior to move-in included installing 5" solid white oak floors throughout all of the main living areas and hallways, gutting and reorganizing the kitchen to "square up" the cabinets and walls (to get rid of those 90's angles) adding new trim and moulding to a few rooms, remodeling the powder bath and guest bath, and painting everything.

Real home tour! Elegant neutral modern traditional home

I am so excited to bring you this new series!! Instagram home tours!

There are quite a few talented Instagram influencers who only share their projects and homes on Instagram and do not have blogs of their own. Instagram is awesome!!!, but beautiful home content can live longer and inspire more people on blogs! It's easier to pin from, bookmark, and search for. But blogging isn't for everybody, and I know a lot of Instagrammers aren't about to start blogs. So, I'm going to be sharing home tours of some of my favorites here on my blog!

This week is Henna, who lives in a somewhat traditional but newer home outside Washington, DC. I think I first found her because of the box molding wall treatment she added to her beautiful dining room!, but I love her calm, classic neutrals and actually all the classic molding throughout her home. She mixes in modern pieces so it doesn't feel too heavy or stuffy. She's painted a couple of statement abstract pieces that also add some edge.

Lots of beautiful photos of Henna's home! Take it away, Henna from @thesimplystyledhome!

Neutral Modern Traditional Home Tour

We have lived in our home 7 years.  It was a new build, but generally quite cookie cutter.  We have definitely slowly made updates to the home including wall mouldings, updated/renovated the mudroom with a custom built-in and cabinetry, made minor updates to the kitchen (added a vent hood and removed the microwave from above the range, added a tile backsplash, updated hardware) until we can make the big changes!  There's still so much I'd like to change, but slow and steady, even though it's so hard to wait!  I love to paint so I did DIY a couple of the art pieces, one being the one in my dining room and the other in the guest bedroom, which is more of a neutral textured piece.

Family Room

This is a room we recently refreshed with a new rug, ottomans, coffee table, cabinet, curtains and pillows/decor.  Only thing left is to purchase some new couches (these are old and it's just time for an update), which I hope we can do this year!
