Before & After: A (sort of) productive weekend

I've successfully completed my first weekend as a 40+-hour-a-week employee, and I'm happy to say it was fun and refreshing, and I'm looking forward to getting back into things at work today.  Friday night I went to some friends' new house and had sort of a girls' night while our husbands and boyfriends talked, then Saturday I did some things around the house before I met my friend for shopping, dinner, then karaoke with more friends.  Sunday I saw a townhouse and looked for other rentals nearer to work... we are moving again.  Then I got some sewing and projects done, then hot-tubbed at my parents' house.

I also cut out and finished a cute work-ey dress with some fabric I got at JoAnn's on Saturday for 50% off the clearance price.  Sweet.  I also did a quick project on a stool I bought at Goodwill Outlet recently--we needed a more piano bench-height piano bench, and this one was funky and vintage but not covered well.  Turned out to be stapled with an old flannel pillowcase.
When is that wood leg trim style from, do you think?  '40's?  '60's?

I knew I wanted it white, and then I had some awesome bright yellow chenille, also vintage, that I used some of for the cover:
Just an easy staple-and-screw-back-on project!  After letting all the coats of high-gloss paint dry, that is.

I will wear the cute navy work dress that I started soon, and am building my work wardrobe from the after-Christmas season sales as well.  I got three cute pairs of shoes at the mall Saturday at great prices!!  I love having great shoes.

How was your weekend?

  1. Congratulations on your first work week :)
I like the piano stool- it looks nice and fresh.
Looking forward to seeing the new work dress.

  2. WOW! I work 5 days a week, (only 27.5 hrs total), and even I don't get that much done in a weekend! Maybe it's the fact that I have 2 kids, and all I want to do in addition to caring for them is just RELAX....
    Good for you! :)

Nice job with the piano stool! I like the white and yellow together. They look fresh and cheerful :-)

  4. Love the vintage fabric on the stool and the colour combo is great! Will you be posting a pic of the dress that you made - would love to see it!

  5. Oj!! (Wow in swedish). You´ve been busy.:-)

  6. Congrats on your first work week. Glad it went well :)

  7. Wow, a very productive weekend! Mine mostly involved drinking and watching movies, hehe :)

  8. Thanks!
Yeah, I'll post a pic of the dress soon!

  9. I'd say 60's. We have a yellow silk chair from the 60's that has the same lines and features... you can see it here: http://whollylivingfamily.blogspot.com/2011/01/favorite-topic-flea-market-finds.html

By the way, I love your blog. Even though I'm an out-of-shape/misshapen housewife/mother to three, the beautiful lines of your garments absolutely inspire me to get back to my best self. I'm also a home re-arranging, DIY, painting, repairing, farmers'/flea marketing fool! I love to see the beauty of other places and the possibilities of seeing these experiences through new eyes. :)
