Loving my (recycled) vintage lace skirt

I'm feeling very eco-friendly, vintage style-influenced, and trendy with this latest skirt project!  I'm sure you'll be proud.

You may remember a while back I cut apart a vintage lace shift dress, very 60's shapeless, that had some damage and was missing the zipper and lining when I rescued it from the Goodwill Outlet bins.  I used the top for the bodice of this dress, but I was sure to save enough on the bottom for a potential future project.

And it came time for that project!  Obvs, lace is everywhere this year, and there is pretty crappy lace selection at JoAnn and from new manufacturers--often, so scratchy and thin!  But, in the stores, there are great lace pieces, and here are some inspiration images on some lovely style bloggers, in case you're not sure what I mean!

Lots of prettiness, eh??  I love that a lace skirt doesn't have to be racy or lingerie-ey.  They're fun for daytime, too!

With that in mind, I cut up the bottom half of the vintage dress and used a small piece of greyish twill that I had laying around.  I used New Look 6003, slim fit, no darts in the front, and just barely had enough lace!  I used a black cotton sateen for the contrast waistband, which I think gave it a nice contrast.

And, I took my own blog pics of it--still feeling very proud of my tech-saavy! ;)

Gettin' sneaky with the remote... ;)

What do you think?  It doesn't look too evening-ey, right?  The lace is pretty thick/substantial, and that extra layer of twill makes it really wearable, not thin-feeling at all!  I already wore it to work once, with a plain black sweater on top, but I'd love to branch out.

Do you have any lace pieces?  How do you wear them for daytime?
