Fairytale little girl's room is finally complete!

I made a lot of changes to Lucy's bedroom last year, shortly after we replaced the crib with a bed. But it was still not quite as nice as I was hoping, and this spring I put a couple very important finishing touches and changes in there and now it's totally done and lovely.

The room is super long and skinny, about 8' x 16' I think, so no standard rugs work. We had an 8' x 10' in here for a long time but that left a couple bare spots of floor at the entrance and by the window. I recently found a great source for custom size rugs in natural fibers, Sisal Rugs Direct. They have a wide range of options and prices, and I found this wool rug in this lovely tan color that feels kind of like a jute rug, but is softer, on the lower end of their prices.

I measured--leaving about 8" on all sides for a really luxurious full coverage--and they quickly made and shipped this custom 7' x 15' or so rug.

It makes such a difference to have a rug the right size! Plus now she has more room to play.

Another thing I upgraded is the shade. The one I had in there previously was a DIY from 2020 and it was very cute, but wasn't working very well because it was a cheap Amazon shade, and it had gotten pretty dirty from where our fingers touched it but it wasn't washable without damaging the adhesive. Thankfully, now there are so many more options for custom, cute Roman shades, and Lucy and I together picked this one from Twopages with a pink and white trim. (My code SUZANNAHSTANLEY gets you 25% off.) She wishes she could have a pink room, but I am not painting these walls again… But many of the things we've put in since are pink!

We also upgraded some of the art, with some pieces that are more meaningful to her or that I just painted or framed recently.

She also has a lot more dolls than she did a couple years ago, so I've had to make room for them with some organization, like these rolling under bed bins (least ugly I could find) and tucking away one of the American Girl doll beds in a cute little corner we created now that this isn't a no man's land with no rug.

That little floral armoire is one from my childhood! My mom made it from a kit for one of my American Girl dolls.

Her peg wall closet is still going strong… If she gets too much taller, it won't work anymore! Poor girl doesn't have a closet, but it's actually nice to be able to see all of her dresses like this.

She's also collected a few more sentimental objects on top of the dresser, which sometimes we put away but sometimes we just leave out. I love seeing what she gravitates to and how creative she is with how she plays with different toys.

This room is still accessed directly from our bedroom, which doesn't feel like it will work forever… She'll be 6 this summer and while she definitely needs a space of her own, she also loves sleeping on a bunk in Otto's room. Not sure what the solution is yet, but there's probably won't be her room for too many more years.

But for now, oh gosh, it is so cute! And functional, and comfortable.
