Totally successful: Burgundy dyed jeans project

Don't you love it when plans work out perfectly?? I am super excited about my burgundy dyed jeans project that I did last week--and wore all weekend. ;) I've dyed jeans before, and they were fine too, but these came out with totally even color and just the right level of saturation, even after I washed them in the washer to get the extra dye out. I feel totally secure about wearing them and not shedding burgundy dye if I sit on a wet park bench or something.

So, I took a pair of grey cheap-o jeans (Forever 21; I bought them at Goodwill) and a box of burgundy RIT dye, and... voila. Sink-dying method, added the salt, all that. I haven't used RIT dye in years since I have vague memories of little dots of color not mixing in (I've used iDye and Dylon more recently), but this color was the one I wanted (remember my fall wardrobe wishlist? I wanted burgundy cords. These will do instead!!), and it worked out great. Helps that the jeans are 100% cotton, of course; don't think I would have tried it with something with poly in it.

Before and after...

Wahoo!! Lovely trendy burgundy jeans, for the cost of the dye with my JoAnn coupon. =)

Have you been rocking the fall-colored jeans this season? Any successful outfit ideas? If not, I can totally recommend DIYing the color you want! =)
