Finally, the right size rug for the dining room!

This dining room was the first room I called "finished" when we moved in almost 7 years ago, and because dining rooms have pretty basic ingredients, it hasn’t really changed all that much. I’ve definitely improved it though, several times. But the thing I was never able to get right was the rug. This room is about 12' x 12', which means a standard 8'x10' rug looks… OK? But definitely not high-end or really comfortable.

Thanks to Rugs USA for partnering with me on this post.

Classic Jute Dining Room Rug

I’ve had several different rugs in this room, always trendy, never classic or timeless. (Of course, how would I know that what I’ve chosen this time is timeless… although it’s been in style in some form since at least the 90s and is what we think of when we currently when we think about timeless, Nancy Myers, Gil Schaefer inspired design, so I'm crossing my fingers.) I have an old house and I’ve learned I don’t want to go for the trendiest thing, even when that is sort of vintage-inspired. This house is not trendy. But it can be timeless if I decorate it carefully.

Enough poetry about style. The point is, I finally found for this square room a square rug that fits it properly. What a novel concept! (Not.) In fact, you can see around the edge of the room, a border of discoloration of the floor, where for years an appropriately sized and shaped rug, carpet, or linoleum must have sat. It used to be much easier to get those things custom than ready-made standard sizes.

I’ve been loving, classic, basic rugs, like jute and sisal lately, and they come in so many sizes! This one is from my favorite natural fiber, rug source, Rugs USA, and it comes in tons of sizes in different shapes. It’s also the same as the one I have in my living room, which makes me feel extra cohesive. I like to either go with a very different type of rug when two rooms are visible from one another, or the same rug. I’m excited for this neutral base in the dining room just like the living room, and because they match in such a basic classic style, it makes me feel very grown-up.

The prices at Rugs USA are awesome and I’ll link several of my favorite jute and other natural fiber styles below. Here's the one I chose. Amazing prices, too!
