Basement laundry room but make it cute - reveal! And sources

A basement laundry room is not my dream situation, but I’ve finally finished renovating and now styling this one and am happy with it! It was part of the big basement renovation project that we started in early 2022 but, thanks and part two divorce and lots of other priorities in life, there were still paint, touchups and other things to do until very recently. little by little finished parts of this room and then finally got the final piece, very cool, traditional drying rack!

Old House Basement Laundry Room Reveal

The blue on the walls is a shade darker than the blue on the drywall around the rest of the basement: the laundry room walls and trim and the trim everywhere else is Sherwin-Williams 6228 Refuge, the walls in the rest of the basement are SW 6227 Meditative. It’s actually really beautiful blue color, not too dark despite this being a slightly darker space, perfect amount of muddiness.

I like to have a rug in a laundry room space and I found this one at PDX Estate Marketplace, a new monthly estate sale inventory business that popped up last year and has been so fun to visit. There’s not a lot of functional needs that also keep a laundry room looking pretty or interesting, but I hung some vintage art with nice colors that cheers me up.

Right on the other side of that wall is this bathroom, one of the cutest rooms I've done!

Replacing the laundry room sink was kind of a last-minute decision and so the floor still needs to be painted (oops), we replaced it with this utility sink and then I made a very simple sink skirt out of this shower curtain and some Velcro-type tape. See the reel here.

The drying rack is super functional, but I actually thought of it when I was looking for more cute styling things… So it’s the best of both worlds! It’s from this British company, but I’ve seen a similar one here. I chose a smaller one that has only four bars and isn’t too long, but it’s fine for hanging swimsuits, etc. Before I had this, I had a rolling metal clothing rack on the left side of the room just sticking out and it was ugly and annoying, so this is luxurious now!

You can read about the rest of the basement project (including cost breakdown) here. It was a big one, but has added a lot of functional space to our home! Plus, what an improvement from the terrifying laundry room situation this was before! When we moved in, there was an old plastic stall in the back corner, which the previous-previous owners had installed rather than fix the upstairs shower… And then which we used when we were renovating me main bathroom before we had another shower! Even after we removed that it was pretty yucky down here. Here's what it looked like for several years, after we removed the shower but before this reno.

So grateful for this space!
