Sewing days and cutting days

Yesterday and the day before I bought like a million patterns at JoAnn's, including a bunch of Simplicity that are all $0.99 this week and some $1.99 McCall's.  Wahoo!!
I was so excited and inspired yesterday, and had the day free, that I cut out a bunch of dresses and skirts for work.  A bunch!
Sometimes you're in a cutting mood and sometimes you're in a sewing mood, and yesterday I was all about the cutting.  Which is good, since it's the hard part, anyway.  So today I plan to get lots of sewing done!!

Hope you are enjoying the long weekend.  I have today off!  Are any of you finding time for creative pursuits this weekend?

  1. Blimey - that really is a lot of cutting!
I have to admit, I'm never really in a cutting mood - it's the bit before the bit I love to do but see it as a necessary evil....
Can't wait to see the results once everything is put together!

  2. I have the amazing fit dress pattern. It is a fabulous pattern. I'll be interested to see how the amazing fit jacket goes. I was tempted to buy it recently. Unfortunately the cheapest sale priced pattern in Australia is $7.50, so I am more cautious about buying.

  3. You are so lucky to have great sales, simplicity patterns cost £8 in the UK and there are never any good sales. You have done well with all that cutting, my biggest problem is getting the motivation to trace patterns.

  4. That's a great idea... I just seem to never be in cutting mood, I wish I had an assistant to do that :)

  5. I love those pattern sales! I'm a mom to 3 insane cats and 1 curious 15 month old so I love to cut on Saturday and sunday when the hubby is home to keep everyone out of my hair (and out of my pins and patterns! ) Then, I sew all week!

  7. I find that cutting takes longer than sewing sometimes for me! It's good that you can get it all done at once and sit down to sew in your free moments.

  8. Yeah cutting is def the most time-consuming and sometimes frustrating part... but it's also fun since that's when you really design and think up what it is you're going to make!

I guess I am very lucky to be able to shop the $0.99 pattern sales!

Love this post, as I'm one who really enjoys a cutting day. And then the projects sit, and sit, and.....

  11. Wow - that is a lot! I agree with you on the cutting being the worst ..yick :P
I found myself doing some clothes sewing this weekend, which is a switch for me. And I have you and one or 2 other blogs to thank for inspiration :)
Thanks for sharing so much with all of us. It helps give me a kick in the pants and a spark in the old creative noggin.

You're so inspiring. I really should cut out a ton of things at a time. I hate cutting. It's really one of the reasons why I don't sew as often as I'd like. Good luck on the dresses.

  13. I bought patterns yesterday too! So yesterday I just cut out a pair of pants, which will be my first pants with a fly which I'm scared about. Hopefully the turn out not looking stupid.

  14. I don't like cutting mostly because I haven't got the space to properly do it.

I agree with Katherine there never seem to be the equivalent of $0.99 sale in the UK- apart from ghastly patterns from the 80s. This is probably a good thing for my wallet though :-)
