Oh, how I love a simple room makeover--I swear all this room needed was Roman shades and curtains, and a rug!

My friends just replaced their carpet with hardwoods to match their hallway, and now all their rooms have so much more potential. This room went from forgotten brown office to fun playroom right off the main parts of their home!

Simple Playroom Makeover

We made this room fun for kids, plus pretty for my friend.

I wish I had a true "before"... when they moved in a few years ago this room had paper bag brown walls and grey-brown carpet. This summer they replaced all their carpet downstairs with hardwoods and... already you can tell it's better, but still needed help. They painted the walls a very light creamy beige. That used to be a boob light, of course!

And here's the room now!

We changed the tiny flush mount light for this fun rattan pendant, hung down lower for this tall 9' ceiling. Added a comfy chair and rug of course (this wool rug from the new Magnolia collection)... and a playful floor lamp. Paired with the functional storage cabinet they had from before.

On the other side we brought back in their bookcase and styled it with a gallery wall that includes lots of kid art!

My favorite part is the window treatments. We took out the white slatted blinds from the builder in 2000... they were not pretty, and they were so large and heavy they were hard to use!

We added this bamboo Roman shade from Twopages and chose a motorized one since the window is so high, you can't reach the blind when it's closed. The motorized one comes with a handy remote and mount for the wall.

The curtains are this lovely embroidered stripe pleated curtain from Twopages. It's linen with a warm mossy green pattern that harmonizes with the blue stripe rug.

As soon as we put the window treatments up, the room felt so different! So much prettier and more intentional.
