Bedroom updates, and affordable custom trimmed curtains
After many years of subpar window treatments in my bedroom… I finally cracked the code! I had been using slightly-too-short standard 84" Target curtains, pretty good blackout, but just the hidden tab top, because I knew they would be quiet for opening and closing while the kids were sleeping nearby. But I really wanted the elegant look of pinch pleat curtains on rings. Well, I figured it out!
The best window treatments for my primary bedroom
The solution: layered Roman shade and curtains. I got this beautiful woven Roman shade from Twopages, with a super thorough blackout lining, and I mounted it outside the window to block the light around the cracks and allow all the light I can through the window when the shade is open. This thing is so powerful, but all I need is the shade closed for a seriously effective blackout (and it’s silent when I open and close it).
So, I’m able to have beautiful, functional but optional, pinch pleat Belgian linen curtains with this lovely pink ribbon trim. Twopages has quite a few trim options to choose from and I deliberated about this one for probably months before I settled on this pink. I know it’s not the same color of the walls, but I kind of like that about it. It feels feminine, but because the curtains are pleated they have some structure, and the trim pattern has structure too.
I got this cute curtain rod with glass ball finials (amazing price), same one as I did in Otto’s room. (It can dress up or down, apparently!) And here are the rings I used.
Twopages pinch pleat curtains come with the hooks that you clip onto the rings, and they’re all adjustable so if you have a slightly uneven piece of floor, you can just click the hooks a little shorter. See my reel of how I hung them here.
I’m so happy that this room got this elegant upgrade.
Some other new things in here… I removed the faded red vintage rug that I had layered on top of this jute rug for years. I do like it, but I’m really getting away from the fainted/shaved Turkish rug trend in this house where I’m going more traditional.
I also replaced a sort of modern woven leather bench with this more traditional rush woven bench from Ballard Designs that I found on Facebook. Ballard doesn’t make this color anymore, though I found some very pretty similar ones I’ll link below. I think it would be so fun to make a cushion cover for this bench, but I’ll have to put that on the winter projects list. Still juggling several other unfinished projects around here!
Still on the list for this room… I’m thinking about replacing the floral chair in the corner with something a little more neutral, and of course I’m always hoping to find new bedding! I have loved shopping for bedding since I was a child.
Today I have "the summer bedding" on here… This scalloped quilt and scalloped shams, this lovely lightweight cotton blanket that’s perfect for summer nights, and these linen sheets that are basically all I use.
Stay tuned to see if I am able to make those other replacements this summer!
