New sofas in the living room!

A couple years ago I finally figured out the right layout for my long skinny living room. Two couches facing each other: simple and classic, but very comfortable, with lots of seating options. Plus an ottoman instead of a coffee table for comfy foot resting, and of course lots of forts and jumping by the kids. But as for the sofa style, I debated for probably a year and a half before I figured out the right combination. Well, they’re finally here and I’m so excited to reveal them!

Thanks to Interior Define for partnering with me on this post.

Custom sofas in my historic home living room

You know I love custom furniture from The Inside, like my headboard and Otto’s ottoman. But The Inside is part of Havenly brands, who also have a much larger furniture line with Interior DefineInterior Define offers tons of choices of fabric and other customizations for all of their sofa lines, so I was able to pick my statement sofa in a beautiful light blue velvet ("Spa") and a classic, more traditional roll arm sofa in beige to pair with it.

Interior Define's pricing is not much higher than you’ll find for something off the shelf or that only comes in a few colors. And you can customize almost everything! I chose the right length, and too long cushions instead of one or three, as well as the fill options. I’ll show you all of my customizations below.

The light blue sofa is the Caitlin by The Everygirl, which I’ve admired for years after I heard about it years ago because I follow the Everygirl founders. It’s sleek and elegant, but also traditional, and I love the skirted option. Velvet furniture is actually super durable and long lasting, as I figured out years ago when I had a green velvet sofa. Food and fuzz and other dirt just sit on top of the pile! Easy to brush off, and stains don’t soak in. This is my go-to couch spot for watching TV, so I really wanted something super durable and comfy. It is so soft and lovely to sit on, and I love how the light blue has lightened the room!

Opposite that I chose the Alexander sofa. This one has a traditional English roll arm, but cushions on the back for extra comfort. It’s so fun to get into all the sample options for a beige or off-white sofa. I got tons of samples and petted them all, and held them up to other things in the living room. This is the Bisque fabric. I absolutely recommend ordering samples of all the fabrics you like, and actually sitting on them for a month or so before you pick! Spill things on them, play on them, see how they hold up. I was a little nervous about having a light-colored sofa with the kids, but it’s been just fine so far. The Bisque fabric is stain-resistant. Because of the woven texture and fabric blend it may be a little prone to pilling with extra friction, so I may need to shave it. You can choose a fabric with more pile or higher rub count (tightly woven) to reduce pilling!

Ordering a sofa can be a daunting process, but the graphics on Interior Define make it really fun. I had tabs open on my phone and computer for quite a while as I debated about these! It was also really cool to show the kids, who are resistant to change and were not too excited about their beloved sofas being replaced… But they got excited playing around with the color and other options on the Interior Define site! You could choose the feet, the fill amount, and you can totally change the look by going for one long cushion for a more modern look versus two or three for more traditional. See?

Here's the order for my light blue velvet sofa.

And here's my off-white/beige sofa order details.

The production and shipping took a couple months but when they were ready they were delivered by a local shipping company with full service delivery into the house and into position. They even took away all the packaging materials--such a luxury, ha!

It's absolutely worth it to think long and hard about the larger upholstered pieces you want in your living room and make a careful choice! Interior Define helps with that with the ordering options and virtual tools, and all the samples!

My SUZANNAH20" gets you 20% off your order!
