WELCOME

Hello! I'm Suzannah, a serious DIYer and mom of two little ones. Follow along with my DIY fixer upper house renovations, sewing and crafty projects, real food recipes, and de-stressing goals.
I believe you can love your home just the way it is, AND have the power to design and make big changes to make it better.
I'm also the author of DIY Wardrobe Makeovers!

A closet curtain improves the room!

We moved into this house not too long ago, and the bedroom has been the last to be decorated.  Still need to finish painting it, and then I can hang art and move things around more freely.  But when I do get it done, I think I'm going to be going for a sort of Scandinavian modern/vintage-infused look, lots of white with bright color accents.  In the room already is the quilt I made out of a vintage 60's quilt top, which has lots of great bright colors in it and several colors of check gingham.  I went with it, and bought some red and white gingham at JoAnn's the other day.  It's the poly-cotton stuff they have in different colors and sizes, and I wouldn't want to wear it, really, since it's thin and 65% polyester, but it's just great for a lightweight curtain!

The bedroom has sloped attic ceilings (more pics once I finish decorating!), and a funky closet built into the roof line with no door or anything.  Before:
Still mid-project, but after curtain (you can see the edges of the paint at the wall/ceiling join! We've only done one coat...)
It was a super fast curtain, since I didn't have to hem the sides.  Just made the top casing and hem at the bottom, and left the selvages on the sides!  Now, if the rest of the bedroom decor was so easy and fast...

BTW, I'd love your ideas on how to include more simple Danish modern looks combined with a few fun vintage 60's-type decor stuff.  Any great inspiration sites?

  3. A small touch, amazing difference. At risk of being overly simplicistic, what about an Ikea catalogue?

  6. I have a curtain like this on my closet! It's perfect, because even if the stuff in your closet overflows slightly, the curtain will cover any unsightly bulges!

  7. I agree with the Ikea idea. They have some very cute home dec stuff, and some Christmas items that would also be cute this time of year. (Those straw reindeer, red & white ornaments, etc.) My favorite part of Ikea to shop in is the kid's section. They have very colorful & cute lamps that work in adult rooms as well!

  8. Just found your blog and have it bookmarked so I don't lose track of it!

Another blog I read has an embroidery tutorial that is specific to gingham fabric. I think it would look wonderful on that curtain! Here is a link to the tutorial (it's for bookmarks, but I am using the pattern to make a cloth to sit under a table centerpiece):
