Really, really, really super big news.
(You may be thinking... last year I got married, this summer we bought a house...... no, I'm not pregnant. ;) It's other big, amazing news--for a blogger, anyway!)
I started this blog in 2009 and have grown and changed a lot with it. I started doing tutorials a few months after starting the blog and sharing finished projects, and while I've had to scale back on the tutorials recently since I'm working full-time now and doing all kinds of other things, I really, really enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion with you all. Which is why one of my goals for a long time has been writing a book. Blogs are great, but I love the lasting quality and portability of a craft/sewing book--and I'd love to be a paper-published author!
Thanks to this blog and all my work and ideas in the past few years, I was able to get in contact with a book agent and develop a book proposal. I'm SOOOOO excited to say that my really, really, really big news is that my proposal was well-received and I'm going to be writing a sewing book for a great craft book publisher!
I am so honored and amazed and proud and excited--and a little nervous about getting writer's block!--to get started and write an amazing book that I hope will be a great resource for readers and sewers like you and all kinds of folks! I actually found out a couple days before we closed on our house, so needless to say it has been a busy few weeks for me and I'm hoping the craziness and stress die down soon.
Can't wait to share more book details with you when it gets closer to done. A long time from now. Until then, let me know if you have ideas for what you'd like to see in a more in-depth look at the Adventures in Dressmaking perspective on DIYing your wardrobe!
You rock! CONGRATULATIONS! You won't get writer's block, not even once, because you'll be having so much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is SO awesome! Congrats to you Suzannah!!! This is HUGE :) So happy for you!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you!!! I've been following you blog rather silently, but I am really fond of your writing and am looking forward to this new project of yours. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! That is awesome news! Can't wait for your book :)
ReplyDeleteON IDEAS I LIKE TO READ ABOUT IN YOUR BOOK: I would love to see you tackle in your book how to mix and match commercial patterns to create something new. I'd also love to see dresses worn by celebrities, old and new alike, and how to make those clothes using patterns available at the store or...drafting your own sloper! Not too much to ask, right! LOL!!!!! Anyhow, those were just a few thoughts off the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteAs a new-to-sewing gal, the Potter books are awesome but I have really been inspired by the Built by Wendy series. Have you seen those books? Her books gave me the huzzah on how draft my own sloper, but make it fun, too.
Anyhow, your blog is already infused with all of these ideas. For me, this is one of the reasons I love to follow your blog! Okay..sorry my earlier comment got published twice! I deleted it.
Hurray, again, on the awesome news!!
Thanks!! Great ideas, I would love to share more about tweaking patterns and copying celeb style but that might have to be book #2. This one will be more about refashioning!
DeleteI have seen the Built by Wendy series but have never made anything from it. Thanks again!
Congratulations! The first thought that came to my mind was "She's pregnant!," especially since another blog I follow just announced her news yesterday! I'm sure you won't get writers' block, it'll be a great experience for you!

Congratulations. I love your blog and it's given me the confidence to get back on my machine and sew, sew, SEW. I'm just getting my blog going and I just thanked you for all your advice in my most recent post. Hope you can see my before and after.

One question I do have, do you have any advice for bringing in a waistline of jeans or pants that have stretched after a few wears? Is there a certain seam you prefer? I have a feeling that bringing in the back seam could give a bit of a wedgie look, or should I just give up on that idea and always wear a belt. Looking forward to more advice.
Heather
So glad I inspired you! I've never had that problem with jeans but I would think putting some wide elastic in the whole back waistband could help, or just wear a belt! ;)
DeleteAlthough I have taken in jeans at the side seams before, and the technique would be similar in the back. Here's that tutorial... http://www.adventuresindressmaking.com/2011/09/tutorial-how-to-take-in-and-modify-some.html
DeleteCongrats! I can't wait to buy it!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is really big news! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteNow, as for the suggestions: I'm a huge fan of your (partly) selfdrafted patterns. Perhaps it's a good idea to share some tips and tricks for us, less-advanced sewists. I don't know what kind of book you want to make (as in the beginner sewist, intermediate or advanced), but I think that's something that we'll all appreciate. (oh, and please put some of your dresses in. I love them too!)
Ahhh... huge congrats on the book! :)
ReplyDeleteSO exciting! Congrats and good luck! I know the book will be amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That is terrific news and I look forward to hearing more about the writing process as you get more into it. :)
