DIY tribal print tee

I just did the coolest project, you guys.

You all know tribal prints, right? Totally in. Very cool in black/white or black/ivory. They work for any season, in the right medium... can be dressed up or down, can be bohemian or girly...

(Few of my recent pins celebrating tribal prints...)

So, I loved the idea of trying my own. My chance came when my blogger friend/friend in real life, Carly, showed up to coffee one morning this summer in this tribal print top she made--using stamps she also made!

I'm so happy that Carly lent me her stamps and I got to try it out for myself!

I used the stamps (I bet you could use a rubber stamp from the store, too), a foam brush, craft paint, and fabric medium.

Here's how I did it!

I made a shirt board out of a couple of paper grocery bags taped together and cut into the shape of the shirt. I think stamping worked particularly well on this dolman sleeve tee rather than a regular tee with a sleeve seam! A tank would also work great.

(Actually was so low on the fabric medium that I just squirted the white paint into the bottle and shook it up. Then I put it directly onto the foam stippler tool, blotted on some extra paper, and then covered the stamp.)

This is the first stamp impression. I couldn't believe how perfect it was!! Carly's stamp was amazing!

Then I added the little arrow stamps going the other direction, all in an approximate pattern. I wasn't too worried about working in perfectly straight lines.

The paint dried so fast, I didn't need to wait long before flipping the tee over and doing the other side.

Ta-da!! Seriously soooooo easy and fun!

I did the same pattern on the back and front.

Try it at home!!
