More How I Met Your Mother inspiration and a Stash Bust project!

Last week I shared how cute the girls in How I Met Your Mother dress, and how despite their huuuuuge Hollywood budgets and $600 blouses, they also mix in plenty of Anthropologie!  Shortly after I wrote that post I saw another Anthro top in the episode last week, Season 5 episode 20, I think.
See Lily, in the far right?
Recognize the tank?
Just thought I'd keep you all up to date!  I guess I'll have to keep paying attention, since now it seems like there's Anthro stuff to see all the time on HIMYM!
And here's the patchwork top I mentioned last week... it's not from Anthro and I can't find online where it is from, but I thought it was cool to see a non-hippie, non-90's version of a multi-fabric cottony top!
And, April is Stash Bust Month from Dollar Store Crafts!
So, I dug around my "Small pieces" and "Old project scraps" drawers for fabrics similar to those that make up Lily's top.  I was only partially successful.  I love the pretty blue and pink floral, and unfortunately had nothing similar--well, same with the cute pink/white with flowers.  I really think of the top I came up with as an experiment more than anything!  I'm not too pleased with it but I learned quite a lot doing it since I drafted the pattern as I went.
Here it is, a top made of scraps!

  12. I thought it was cute too but wasn't brave enough to try. I think the difference was that Lily's had more gathering around the bust to give it some shape in the front.

  23. another vote here for a tutorial :) I'm 48 and used to sew when I was younger...making a lot of my and my daughter's clothes. When she was 5 I had twin sons and was so busy I just pushed my sewing out of the way and now I am SO out of the loop!! It's been so long since I've made anything that I'm afraid I'm gonna mess anything I try up...so I need a little help getting started again.
How do you think this top would look with the main part in a lightweight toile with coordinating scraps in yellows and blues?
I need feedback and encouragement from all my sewing sisters & brothers out there :)

  24. I love this top! Any tips on making one from my saved smaller fabric bits? I think I can do the parts from the bottom half. But the top half is harder as I can't see it as well.
I'd love if you'd consider making a tutorial of this shirt! :) I'm going to try it from what I can see but that would be awesome. :)

  26. Wow, I think yours is much more attractive! I didn't like the combination of prints on Lily's. You did a great job!

  27. Oh boy! Oh boy! You did great with the top. That ruffled top reminds me of Julliane Hough and she wore that same top on one of her concerts. Well, I saw it on TV that is and it is the same top that she wore, but I think it was in a much darker color. :)
